For our client Igloo & Quanta Ice Cream in Kuwait, summer 2020 turned out to be very different from all others. Like a lot of countries around the world, Kuwait was under total lockdown with the Covid-19 crisis, and supermarkets and grocery stores were not functioning like usual. Being summer, ice creams were in huge demand, but customers had no way of stocking up like they would have liked. A quick solution was required to address the issue.
We needed to start selling online at the earliest. Since there was little time to begin an e-com site from scratch, it was decided to try out a Shopify store. With the help of a local team in Kuwait, a shop (http://igloohomedelivery-kuwait.com) was set up in 4 days in May 2020.
Initially, it was rolled out as cash on delivery, while the team sorted out the payment gateways. Within 7 days, a full-fledged marketing campaign with an e-com site was up and working. It was during the peak of the lockdown period, which resulted in almost two times the daily sales than expected.
Encouraged by the results after the first week, the marketing budgets were doubled. A portion of the budget was used to raise awareness while the bulk of it went towards conversion. Weekly promotions kept the momentum going. Free delivery and dedicated freezer vans ensured that consumers got just what they wanted right in time.
The facility was highly appreciated during the scorching summer months, when ice cream sales are at their peak. The speed of overall execution coupled with ease of use for customers and on-point delivery added to the sweetness of this campaign’s success.
