Using Facebook Power Editor to Promote Posts

Facebook - August 23rd, 2012

Facebook’s paid feature, Promoted Posts, helps brands with 400 to 100,000 fans, widen the reach of their posts. We had discussed Promoted Posts few months ago on our blog. Now, with Facebook Power Editor, larger brands can benefit from Promoted Posts too. Here’s how it can be done:

Install Power Editor
Install the Power Editor from the Facebook Help Centre that is currently only available in the Chrome browser. After installation, the editor can be accessed by opening a new tab and clicking on the Power Editor icon. The current ads campaign, pages, and profile information have to be downloaded into the editor by clicking on the ‘Download’ button in the top right of the window.

Get Post ID
Now, select the post you want to promote and get the Post ID by clicking on the date below the post. The ID will appear at the end of the URL. Save that for later use.

Create Ad
Select the page from where you wish to promote and set the budget and dates for the campaign and click the ‘ads’ tab to ‘create ad’. Give a name for your ad and click ‘I want to advertise something I have on Facebook.’ Select the ‘Facebook ads’ category and choose ‘page post ad’ from the drop-down menu. Take the Post ID you saved earlier and paste it into the page Post ID box.

After that, select ‘news feed only’ on the ‘placements’ tab. This makes the campaign just like Promoted Posts, where the post appears directly in the feed without a friend endorsement. Clicking on upload will automatically load your ad and campaign into the ads manager and submit your ad for approval. The post will function just like Promoted Posts work for pages with smaller number of fans.

The Benefits
Using the Facebook Power Editor to Promote Posts has its advantages. Any post can be promoted by pasting the Post ID into the Page Post ID box. One can target the desired audience – desktop or mobile users – thus giving accurate pricing too. With the Power Editor you can also choose the countries and time that you want to advertise unlike normal promoted posts that reach a randomly scattered audience.
